Facilitator: Let’s talk about the inside of the home also. So we’re talking a little bit about the outside and obviously the deck is an important part of that experience. What about interior stairs? We just had a project together recently. We did a case study on it. Those stairs turned out amazing. What impact does a custom railing system have on – even when you’re going to sell the home? Can you talk about that at all?
Ryan Hanson of Sustainable 9 Design + Build: Sure. You know, again, I think the whole modern aspect of having those clean lines going up and down the stairs and most of the staircase that we create in all of our houses are very open staircases. We either use just thick four inches of wall, going very minimalistic-looking. But you still need a railing on there. So we really, really like the look of a cable rail going up there.
We also do – I mean even on some of the areas where you wouldn’t think we’ve actually done some – you know, three-season porches where we’ve actually even used the railings and then spring it on the outside of them. I think it looks fantastic actually. So yeah.
Facilitator: Excellent. So I will do a little bit of a background information here. There are a lot of different – we call them infill options. That’s what goes in between the post and the top rail in your railing systems. So there are a lot of different infill options. There’s glass. There’s cable. You can have bar. You can have wireless panels.
But when it comes to the nicest-looking railings, they tend to be custom-made and the metal bed is used predominantly as stainless steel.
