How Architects Differentiate Railing Systems by Using Custom Design Options

October 1, 2024 by Carole Curcie

Architects and custom homebuilders are relentlessly on the lookout for new and exciting ideas to achieve impressive outcomes that meet or exceed their client’s high expectations. Industry professionals strive to set new standards for efficiency and durability, all at a reasonable price relative to the project’s budget.

Simple and versatile, Glacier is one of the top railing choices for commercial installations because its semi-custom design offers a cost-effective way to achieve a high-end, bespoke look without needing a specialized installer. Although AGS designs and manufactures custom components when requested, many of the railing system’s components are standard, which helps keep the cost down and the installation simple.

Custom glass handrail design with blue glass panel infill. The glass guard rail is made from wood and the grab rail is stainless steel.
Blue glass panels are secured with stainless steel clamps. AGS works with architects to help them deliver a custom railing solution. The one-off blue glass handrail takes the project to the next level by providing a luxurious aesthetic.

AGS Stainless fabricated this commercial railing design for a company specializing in insulated glass. Blue is the corporate color, so the railing design is ideal for the company’s headquarters, which is based in Washington State. The client chose a glass panel infill to reflect the nature of the business and add visual interest to the office space and building interior.

Utilizing a custom infill material gives you complete control over the design and quality of the handrail. You can specify the thickness of the glass, finish, color, and even incorporate etched designs.

Glacier panel railing lets you differentiate your project by allowing you to collaborate with experts and artisans. You can create a look for your handrail that delivers a unique aesthetic and provides a key architectural feature. No other railing infill allows you as much scope to innovate with color and materials and utilize your artistic expression — perfect for a statement building.

An AGS glass handrail is simple to install. This blue glass handrail has a wood cap rail and stainless grabrail. Handrail brackets are attached to the railing posts to secure the latter in place.
The interior designer selected a wood cap rail to complement other elements of the building’s architecture. The grab rail is stainless steel and was fabricated off-site by AGS Stainless.

Glass Handrail Returns for Commercial Railing Installation

The wood cap rail softens the railing design and delivers a different tactile sensation to the stainless handrail. AGS prefabricates the stainless railing design so your contractor can assemble it like a kit. Skilled artisans complete all the complex design work with state-of-the-art machinery in AGS’ quality-controlled environment. There’s no need for a specialized onsite installer, which is not the case for many other glass railing systems.

The stainless handrail arrives in parts. Key components are numbered to correspond with drawings and instructions unique to each project.

Innovative Railing Design Made Easy

Your style choices have a huge impact. Custom-designed railing systems give you options that help transform ideas into reality, allowing you to create superior environments that lead to better experiences. This restaurant railing design provides safety, looks stunning, enhances privacy, and muffles sound. Collaboration between experts ensures that the railing design delivers the best possible outcome in style and substance.

Panel railing allows you to innovate and transform a unique railing idea into a reality.

One of the many benefits of a panel infill is that you can incorporate color and texture into your design.

AGS has an onsite engineer who can talk to your project engineer of record if necessary. Glacier offers so much flexibility that the design choices are almost unlimited. Custom infill fabricators can make panels using wire mesh, perforated metal infill, and other materials to help you achieve the look you want.
