AGS railing systems are fabricated from better quality materials (100% recyclable stainless steel) than traditional off-the-shelf railing (usually aluminum) products. Here are some of the advantages that steel has over aluminum. Surface hardness, stainless steel it is much harder than aluminum. Because of this stainless is more scratch resistant, more durable and easier to maintain. Stainless steel is much denser than aluminum. Aluminum is around one-third the density of steel at 2.72 mg/m cubed compared to steel’s 7.85 mg/m cubed. This leads to stainless steels greater strength.
Aluminum’s fatigue performance is half that of stainless steel, which means a stainless railing system is more durable and is more likely to give you a lifetime of use than an aluminum railing system. Because stainless steel is a much stronger product, it takes less material to generate an equally strong railing system. This is why aluminum posts and hand rails are much thicker than their stainless steel counterparts. A “strength-equivalent” stainless steel post is 50% thinner than an aluminum post.
